Messiah Lutheran Church Hub Meeting Minutes               January 13, 2011                         6:30 PM

I.            Opening Prayer - Tom Plutchak - special prayers of thanks and appreciation to outgoing Hub        member Gary Makowiecki

V.          Report of the Pastor - Aileen Robbins - Written

• During Pastor Aileen’s recovery time, Pastor Mary Johnson will fill in - 10 hours per week, including three services each weekend, Hub meetings, and Committee Night
• Pastoral care needs to Jacquie Van Auken first
• Bible studies will be lay-led
• An email has already come regarding Synod Assembly this June

VI.         Stewardship & Budget Update - Wayne Reabold

• Good forums January 9, 10
• Teens to have their own budget line
• Discussion of attendance, finances, review / improve visitor follow up, new approaches to advertising/marketing what we do at Messiah - what we do well

VII.       Annual Meeting & Annual Reports

• Tom Plutchak out of town for Annual Meeting on January 23 - Wayne Reabold will be in charge
• A quorum (10%) is required to conduct business - Wayne will determine what that number is
• Voting members: age 16, confirmed, have given and communed in last year
• Children’s activities - led by Jimmy Hartmann, Alex Gerstenberger, Gwyneth Daunton? They will be asked
• Hub elections by paper ballot - one vote for entire slate
• Show of hands ballots for budget and Endowment Board
• Hub Meeting follows to elect officers, appoint Financial Secretary & Director, Treasurer, Asst. Treasurer

VIII.      Call Every Member Project - Pastor Aileen Robbins - Handouts

• Discussion of letter, plan
• A Lenten project, after Pastor Aileen’s return
• Call team to be assembled
• Kick off first week in Lent

IX.         Memorial Fund Board

• A motion was made, seconded, and carried to approve the Continuing Resolution Authorizing a Memorial Fund Board

X.          Committee Night

• Third Thursday, 6:30 PM
• Everyone meets together first, then to individual committee meetings

XI.         Fund Raising for Youth Activities

• ELCA National Youth Gathering in 2012 in New Orleans
• An expensive event for youth and families
• Our goal is for youth to be able to attend this very worthwhile gathering if that is their desire
• Discussion of Messiah’s Fund Raising Policy which allows fund raisers for outreach ministries only
• A motion was made, seconded, discussed, and carried to make a one-time exception to Messiah’s Fund Raising Policy for the express purpose of providing needed funds for Messiah’s youth to  attend the ELCA National Youth Gathering in 2012 in New Orleans  

XII.       Saving Our Pennies Project Proposal - Jo-Ann Honan

• Purpose - to be more prudent with budget dollars at Messiah
• Tom Plutchak and Jo-Ann will determine what folks could serve on a team to do an in-depth review of the church budget/line items and come up with new, creative ways of saving money

XIII.      Other Ministry Updates & Proposals

• Greece Police visited Messiah following recent break-ins / robberies at many Greece churches
• Special care should be taken to be sure office and other doors are locked when outside groups are present
• Remove Computer Lab sign
• Church is missing several annual reports - Wayne will make copies of these reports from Tom

XIV.      Next Hub Meeting Date - February 3, at 6:30 PM, devotions by Wayne Reabold

XV.       Adjournment - 8:20 PM with Lord’s Prayer
