Confirmation Classes
confirmation catechism youth membership affirmation
At Messiah, Confirmation or Affirmation of Baptism is a three year commitment that begins in the 6th grade. Each year, the student will grow using the tools of the faith and learning how to apply it to his or her life in practical ways. Every unit is a building block to the student's faith life.
6th Grade:
This is the starting point along the confirmation journey. Students will learn all about Biblical figures in a brand new way. Students will see how struggles and joys that existed in Biblical times still exist today in the student's own life.
Topics covered are: Old Testament figures, New Testament figures, and the Sacraments of Communion and Baptism.
7th Grade:
This next step is provides a moral and historical view to the life of the church. Students are challenged about some choices that are made in their lives and are shown that even if we make the wrong choice God is always ready with a word of forgiveness if we just ask it. Adult mentors become part of the student's life and helps guide him/her for the next two years.
Topics covered are: The Ten Commandments, the Apostle's Creed, and the Lord's Prayer.
8th Grade:
This last step in the confirmation journey shows how all the lessons learned in the last two years can be used in everyday life. Students will be challenged with everyday situations to see how Jesus and other Christians would look at them.
Topics covered are: The Bible and Life, the Universe, and Everything Else.
9th Grade:
The service for the Affirmation of Baptism happens every year on Reformation weekend. This is a ceremony where the confirmands affirm their Baptism and commit their lives to God.
